Charlie Chaplin The AM DVD

The A.M. - 1916 – Black & White. In this his only solo performance, Chaplin’s supporting cast of animal skin rugs, battling furniture and a fold down wall bed which refuses to co-operate, leaves a rather drunken Chaplin spending the remainder of the night asleep in the bath tub! It’s not even his house! The Pawnshop - 1916 – Black & White. Chaplin is the more than incompetent assistant at a Pawnbrokers shop. Includes great scenes of Chaplin trying to dust an electric fan whilst it’s running, drying the dishes with a clothes wringer and perhaps the greatest scene of his career – a customer brings in an alarm clock to pawn, Chaplin, through a series of farcical examinations ends up dismantling the clock and returning to the gentleman in it’s component form as not acceptable. His New Job - 1915 – Black & White. The story is based around the idea of Chaplin attending a studio for a job and despite a very favourable flirtation with a young lady (what else!), he doesn’t get the job. Rejected, Chaplin embarks on a rambling stroll around the studio with chaos not far behind. Look out for a brief appearance by Gloria Swanson, here at the very beginning of her long career.
