The Soilers - 1923 – Black & White. Westerns provided many opportunities for comedians to lampoon the genre. "THE SOILERS" is an outrageous mick take of the famous Rex Beach story "THE SPOILERS". The slapstick brawl between Stan and villain James Finlayson is occasionally interrupted by one of the screen's first alternative life-style cowboys! Stan Laurel is Canister and Jimmy Finlayson is Smacknamara. Laurel and Finlayson rip into each other with all the ferocity of John Wayne's and Randolph Scott's 1942 version, but with lovely comic moments interspersed throughout the fight. The utter indifference of the saloon crowd to the massive melée taking place in their midst is classic vintage humour. Knock Me Down Funny! Thundering Fleas - 1926 – Black & White. An all-star Our Gang comedy, in which all sorts of Hal Roach regulars and mini-stars -- except Stan Laurel -- appear. The big gag here is that a bunch of fleas gets loose at the gorgeous Martha Sleeper's wedding, causing all sorts of consternation. Is that a tickle or an itch? White Wings - 1923 – Black & White. In "WHITE WINGS", Stan Laurel goes totally surreal! As a street-cleaner he accidentally walks off with a baby carriage instead of his cleaning carriage. A cop chases after him and Stan's attempts to disguise himself as everything from a statue to a six-foot baby to a dentist make this one of his most bizarre comedies. Show - 1922 – Black & White. A Vaudeville theater provides the setting for a wild chase with Oliver Hardy and Larry Semon in "THE SHOW".
